MetroWest Water Gardens attends
Fish Wet Lab with world-reknown Fish Vet Dr. Erik Johnson and Vicky Vaughan, Director of Univ. of
Georgia's Aquaculture Center
January 27 - 29, 2006
Verdon, New Jersey
-
Tom
Frost of MetroWest Water Garden Designs participated in a three day fish wet
lab at the Mineral Springs Resort, located in Vernon, New Jersey sponsored
by Aquascape Designs and Garden State Koi.
This lab instruction, led by world-renown fish vet and
expert Dr. Erik Johnson (author of: “Koi Health and Disease”) and the University
of Georgia's Vicky Vaughan (Director of SPF Aquaculture Center in Athens,
Georgia) instructed and familiarized attendees on how to properly identify and
diagnose a variety of koi and goldfish parasites, diseases and ailments.
“While only a licensed
veterinarian can professionally diagnose, prescribe or render treatments for
another person’s fish health problems, attending this course taught us the ‘Best
Practices’ available for identifying illnesses, diseases and harmful parasites that affect
koi and goldfish and informed us of the ‘Best Treatments’ available to help
treat those various conditions.
Since we will be selling koi and goldfish at our new retail location in
the Mendon Greenhouse, the knowledge passed on from Dr. Johnson and Ms. Vaughan
will assist us with properly retailing fish, including the instituting of an
examination and quarantine process for all new fish” said Frost. “It will also allow us to intelligently
recommend certain treatments and medications to any fish owners whose fish may
be experiencing some of these health problems.”
